There are three main trends that show digital cameras on the verge of moving from hi-tech toys for early adopters to a widespread everyday consumers. First, the quality of photos produced by the new breed of megapixel digital cameras has come very close to the quality of shots from a standard film camera. Experts predict that digital cameras will start to outperform conventional cameras in the near future. Second, the cost of digital cameras continue to fall. Manufacturers are cranking out new models at such a pace that prices for older models drop by hundreds of dollars just three to six months after their introduction to the market. And finally, the ever increasing use of personal computers at homes and the exploding growth of the Internet and the WWW have generated more interests in electronic imaging.
