Digital camera uses electronic charge-coupled device to capture images. Some cameras record images on a standard 3.5" diskette. Others store them on smaller flash cards. Digital cameras cost more than conventional film cameras. However, you no longer need to pay for film processing. After the pictures are taken, we have to transfer them to a computer. We can then enhance, crop off unwanted portion, and retouch red eyes etc. There are a lot of other fun stuffs we can do. Digital photos are stored as long strings of zeros and ones internally. Unlike silver halide found on a negative, digital image never deteriorates. Most digital cameras have fixed ISO equivalents but others can be set to sensitivities ranging from 80-640 to achieve adequate exposure under different lighting conditions. The built-in flash is usually good for up to 15 feet. If you are serious about photography, get one that comes with external flash sync. It allows connection to other flash units instead of - or in addition to - the digital camera's built-in flash.
